Highlights
  • Economic momentum and areas of future partnership
  • Joint national security and regional coordination

Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty met with Jassem Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), for official talks aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation. During the meeting, Minister Abdel-Aty expressed his deep pride in the fraternal relations and close historical ties that bind the Arab Republic of Egypt to the sisterly GCC states.

He highlighted the remarkable progress in institutional relations between the two sides, particularly since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations in February 2022. There was also the formal adoption of the “Joint Action Plan” between Egypt and the Council for the period (2024-2028). This plan was approved during the ministerial meeting hosted by the city of Mecca in March 2025.

Economic momentum and areas of future partnership

In the same vein, the Egyptian Foreign Minister welcomed the resounding success of the inaugural Egyptian-Gulf Trade and Investment Forum, held in Cairo in November 2025. He emphasized the importance of building upon this significant economic momentum, particularly in vital and future-oriented sectors such as renewable energy. These sectors support the green transition and environmental sustainability projects. Furthermore, the petrochemicals sector can enhance industrial and investment integration. Meanwhile, the digital economy and artificial intelligence will help keep pace with the latest global technological advancements. Finally, the pharmaceutical industry can ensure shared pharmaceutical and healthcare security.

Joint national security and regional coordination

On the security and political front, the Foreign Minister reiterated Egypt’s unwavering support for the security and stability of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, expressing Cairo’s full solidarity with them. He clearly affirmed that the security of the GCC states is an integral part of Egypt’s national security. He also commended and supported all measures taken by these countries to protect their security, stability, and the well-being of their people.

He also expressed his appreciation for the diplomatic and Gulf efforts to support regional de-escalation, stressing the need for continued close coordination between Cairo and the Council to halt military escalation and address all regional concerns. For his part, Jassem Mohammed Al-Budaiwi praised Egypt’s pivotal role in the region. He also affirmed the Gulf’s commitment to developing bilateral relations and strengthening joint Arab action.
