Erbil, Iraq – Erbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, witnessed a significant security development early Wednesday morning. Its skies became embroiled in escalating regional tensions. Kurdish sources reported that four drones crashed in various locations within the autonomous Soran administration, situated in the northern part of the province. These attacks sparked considerable concern among local residents. The drones targeted both populated areas and rugged, mountainous terrain. However, initial reports indicate no casualties. The damage was limited to substantial material losses.

Distribution of locations of falls and material damage

According to field information from local authorities and eyewitnesses, the four drones were distributed as follows. The first incident (Soran District): The wreckage of one drone fell directly on a civilian house located in the center of Soran District. This incident caused significant material damage to the house and its contents. It also caused panic and fear among family members and neighbors. They reported hearing a loud explosion before the wreckage fell. Two other drones crashed in open areas near a village in the Khalifan District. However, they did not result in any civilian casualties. This was despite one of them crashing near farmland and homes. The fourth drone crashed on the summit of Mount Bani Harir in the Harir sub-district of the province. This crash caused a large fire in the scrubland and natural vegetation covering that rugged area.

Emergency response and field efforts

Emergency and civil defense teams immediately mobilized upon receiving reports of the incidents. Firefighters headed to Mount Bani Harir to control the blazes raging in the scrubland. They also prevented them from spreading to nearby forests and areas. Simultaneously, security forces in the Soran administration and the Asayish (Kurdish security forces) launched a comprehensive investigation. The investigation aimed to determine the origin of the drones and the parties responsible for launching them. This comes particularly in light of the repeated drone and ballistic missile attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region in recent years. Such incidents are often attributed to broader regional conflicts.
