Washington, DC – The US State Department reiterated its firm position that the “pilot zones” plan in southern Lebanon remains the only viable solution for achieving lasting peace and security, not only for Lebanon, but also for Israel and the entire region. In remarks to the Israeli news channel i24NEWS, a State Department spokesperson emphasized that the “pilot zones” approach represents the only possible path to genuine and sustainable stability.
The spokesperson explained that the US administration expects the Lebanese army to complete the clearing and securing of the land in the initial pilot areas with high precision. These operations will be gradually expanded later, once their success on the ground is fully verified. He also emphasized that the disarmament of Hezbollah is an integral and essential part of this security plan.
The US official affirmed that the United States remains firmly committed to supporting the trilateral framework, in line with its overarching strategic interests in maintaining regional stability. The US also aims to prevent the escalation of conflicts. This support aligns with President Donald Trump’s comprehensive vision for promoting peace and cooperation among Middle Eastern nations.
In a sharp and scathing attack, the spokesperson asserted that Hezbollah constitutes “the primary and most direct obstacle to Lebanon’s economic recovery,” as well as “the only black mark on its international reputation.” He further deemed it the greatest threat to the country’s security and stability. The US State Department held the party “fully responsible for the presence of Israeli forces on Lebanese territory.” Therefore, it insisted on Hezbollah’s complete disarmament and disbandment as an armed organization to enable the Lebanese state to fully exercise its sovereignty and regain its regional and international standing.
