Infection figures and official reactions
For its part, the Hungarian ambulance service announced that it had treated dozens of injuries, including one critical, life-threatening case. It also reported nine serious injuries. In addition, 37 people with minor injuries were receiving necessary care. In response, Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar offered his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. Meanwhile, Polish President Karol Nowerki expressed his deep sorrow and grief in a post on the X platform, noting his country’s profound sadness at the tragedy that claimed the lives of so many Polish citizens.
Another case: Hospital worker arrested in Budapest
In a separate incident that has caused widespread shock, Hungarian police in Budapest announced the arrest of a 30-year-old hospital worker. He is suspected of collecting human remains from abandoned graves and his workplace. During questioning, the suspect confessed to the horrific acts, which included cooking and eating some of the remains.
