Abu Dhabi, UAE – Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Advisor to the UAE President, affirmed that recent developments in the Gulf region reflect an escalating level of tension. He warned, however, that the continuation of this escalation directly threatens regional security and stability.
Gargash explained that some statements regarding the nature of the military targeting are inconsistent with the facts on the ground. He pointed out that what has transpired reveals damage to civilian facilities and vital infrastructure. Therefore, this raises widespread concern about the repercussions of this escalation on the lives and security of civilians.
He added that the use of missiles and drones on this scale reflects, as he described it, a dangerous shift in the nature of the confrontation. He made it clear that the goals are no longer limited to the traditional military framework only. Rather, it extended to include civilian facilities and areas of a vital nature. This increases the complexity of the regional scene.
Gargash stressed that targeting civilians or non-military infrastructure represents a red line. It also leads to expanding the circle of conflict and raising the level of risks in a region already suffering from accumulated tensions. He stressed that such developments do not serve any party.
He pointed out that the UAE continues its approach based on supporting political and diplomatic solutions. In addition, it is working with regional and international partners to contain the escalation and prevent the region from sliding into wider confrontations.
In the same vein, he called for a swift return to the negotiating table and prioritizing de-escalation over further escalation. He emphasized that stability in the Gulf and the wider region can only be achieved through comprehensive political solutions that address the root causes of the crises, rather than exacerbating them.
Gargash concluded by stressing that the current phase demands a high degree of restraint. He also emphasized the importance of avoiding any actions that could increase tensions. He noted that the security of civilians and the stability of nations must remain the top priority, above all other considerations.
