Baghdad, Iraq – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced that government and security sites in Erbil were attacked by two drones. This marks a new security development amid escalating tensions and attacks in the region. In a security statement, the KRG said that two drones attacked the office of the KRG Prime Minister and the residence of the head of the security service. It indicated that the attack resulted in no casualties.
The statement added that security authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the attack and are working to determine the flight path of the two drones and the party responsible for launching them. This comes amid heightened security measures in the targeted areas. The attack occurs at a time of escalating tensions in the region, which is also witnessing an increasing reliance on drones to carry out attacks targeting government and security sites and vital infrastructure.
The targeting of sites linked to the political and security leadership in Erbil raises concerns about a wider escalation, especially given that the Kurdistan Region has previously been subjected to drone and missile attacks during periods of regional tension. The regional government emphasizes the importance of protecting Kurdistan’s territory from becoming an arena for regional conflicts. Meanwhile, security forces continue to monitor developments and take necessary measures to secure government buildings, key figures, and officials in the region.
