Abu Dhabi, UAE – Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Advisor to the UAE President, affirmed that the strategic threat facing the UAE and the Gulf states comes from Iran.
He also indicated that its missiles and drones pose future threats to regional and international security.
Escalating Iranian threats
Gargash explained that Iran’s missile and drone capabilities are a growing concern for countries in the region and the world.
He called for a clear approach to this issue that identifies the sources of the threat
and establishes mechanisms to mitigate its risks to regional stability.
The diplomatic advisor to the UAE president stressed the need to impose restrictions on Iran’s use of missiles and drones.
He emphasized that the position does not call for escalation or attack,
but rather for clarifying the nature of the primary threat.
He also stressed the importance of keeping diplomatic channels open.
The balance between deterrence and diplomacy
Gargash noted that Iran has become, in his words, a “bullying and dangerous state” in the context of regional developments.
He pointed out that the UAE’s approach is based on achieving a balance between strengthening regional deterrence on the one hand, and continuing diplomatic efforts and de-escalation on the other.
He also explained that this ensures the stability and security of the region.
