Washington, DC – Meta announced the launch of a new suite of parental control tools for its Threads platform, a move aimed at enhancing the protection of teenage users.

These tools give parents greater control over their children’s platform usage, as part of the company’s efforts to provide a safer digital environment.

The new tools build upon measures Meta has already implemented on Instagram and Facebook.

They allow families to view their teenagers’ privacy settings and see how much time they spend on the platform. Additionally, they can manage certain security options to be age-appropriate.

The importance of maintaining digital privacy

Meta confirmed that the updates include enhanced parental controls for teen accounts, providing alerts

and guidance to encourage responsible use and limit access to inappropriate content and spam.

The new features also offer options for parents to monitor changes their children make to privacy settings.

Additionally, they provide educational tools to raise awareness about the risks of excessive social media use and the importance of maintaining digital privacy.

This move comes amid increasing pressure on technology companies from governments and regulatory bodies worldwide.

These entities are demanding greater protection for children and teens, particularly regarding cyberbullying, harmful content, and digital addiction.

Digital risks and monitoring harmful behaviors

Information security experts believe that parental control tools have become essential on social media platforms,

but they emphasize that the family’s role remains paramount in educating children about safe internet use.

Promoting open dialogue with them about digital risks is also crucial.

Meta confirms that the development of tools to protect teenagers will continue in the coming period,

with the addition of new features that utilize artificial intelligence to detect harmful behaviors.

Furthermore, a safer user experience is being provided, striking a balance between protecting users and preserving their privacy.
