Tangerang, Indonesia – Indonesia reopened airports closed due to volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatoa, including Jakarta’s primary Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
Flight Operations Resume With Fleet Checks
The Transport Minister confirmed operations resumed after shifting winds cleared the ash, adding that 178 grounded commercial aircraft are undergoing technical inspections.
The eruption ash plume engulfed Jakarta and surrounding provinces since Friday, forcing eight airport closures and stranding over 340,000 international passengers.
Eruption Risks Persist As Search Operations Launch
Despite reopening six additional airfields, officials warned that sudden eruptive activity could trigger fresh flight suspensions and air traffic re-routing.
Simultaneously, search-and-rescue teams deployed vessels to locate a missing speedboat carrying eight individuals, including five journalists covering Sunda Strait eruptions.
