The presidential letter, dated July 6, stated that President Trump expressed his deep appreciation for the decisive leadership shown by President Tinuobu on behalf of the Nigerian people. He also explicitly commended the tireless efforts to combat the widespread violence. Notably, he said the violence directly impacts Christian communities and other citizens in various affected areas.

In his letter, President Trump expressed his desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation, writing, “It is a true honor to stand with you in the fight against terrorists and to make the Federal Republic of Nigeria stronger and more prosperous.” This letter clearly underscores the marked improvement in bilateral relations between Abuja and Washington.

Last November, Trump directly accused the Nigerian government of failing to protect Christians from violence perpetrated by extremist groups.
