Tehran, Iran – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian acknowledged the severe economic and living conditions plaguing the country. This comes amidst the ongoing US economic war against Tehran and escalating threats of new, harsher sanctions. Speaking about the domestic situation, Pezeshkian stated, “We are ashamed of the difficulties we face,” noting that the government is doing its utmost to address a reality where economic, military, and security challenges intersect. He added that these challenges are presented as part of a comprehensive and unequal confrontation.

The Iranian president explained that since taking office, the government has faced mounting pressures and deep structural imbalances affecting vital sectors including water, electricity, gas, and fuel. It has also faced environmental crises and crises in the banking system. At the same time, he expressed his appreciation for the efforts of all those working to address these exceptional circumstances.

Foiling the plan to transform Iran into a Venezuela-like model

Speaking about the resilience of the state, Pezeshkian emphasized that the enemies mistakenly believed that intensifying pressure and aggressive policies would lead to Iran’s collapse and its transformation into something resembling Venezuela. However, he stressed that reality has proven the exact opposite. He explained that the strength and unity of the Iranian people and their adherence to the path of independence have astonished the entire world. The nation has demonstrated an exceptional ability to withstand pressure and harsh measures despite the current difficult living conditions. The Iranian president added that the administration is striving to prevent the repercussions of the crises from having a direct and legal impact on the lives of citizens. He also considered the solidarity of society to be the primary shield in thwarting regional and international objectives hostile to his country.

Agreement on the Islamabad Memorandum and commitment to joint decisions

On the political front, Pezeshkian addressed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, considering it the fruit of national consensus and the extensive experience of experts who had navigated the conflict and refused to succumb to external pressures. He emphasized that reaching this understanding reflects the utmost wisdom and national dignity. Pezeshkian concluded by stressing the importance of full commitment to implementing the outcomes of this memorandum and the joint decisions. He also warned that deviating from the agreed-upon path would expose the country to grave risks. He reiterated his determination to continue serving the people and alleviating their suffering in every way possible.
