Washington, DC – In a significant development on the political and military scene, US President Donald Trump asserted that his country’s efforts to reach an agreement with Iran are “going very well,” predicting that Washington will declare “complete victory” within the next two weeks. These remarks came during a telephone address Trump delivered Monday evening while participating in a campaign rally in support of Republican Senator Lindsey Graham in South Carolina.
“We will win this war.”
In a confident tone, Trump described his administration’s handling of the crisis with Tehran as “very good,” emphasizing the strength of the American team managing the situation.
He said in his address: “We are a very strong team, and I believe we are winning this war. When we declare total victory in the next two weeks, we will have achieved a true victory.” These remarks come as diplomatic efforts intensify to contain the tensions that have reached a peak in recent days.
Israeli-Iranian escalation precedes calm
The region witnessed a new round of violent military escalation between Iran and Israel on Sunday and Monday, beginning after Tel Aviv launched an airstrike targeting Beirut’s southern suburbs.
In response, Tehran launched missile strikes toward Israel, which retaliated by launching airstrikes against military targets in western and central Iran.
Context of the conflict: From February to the April truce
This cautious calm comes amid a protracted conflict that began on February 28, when direct military confrontations erupted between Washington and Israel on one side, and Iran on the other, targeting Iranian sites and American interests in several Arab countries.
It is worth noting that the two sides had previously reached a temporary ceasefire agreement on April 8, and Trump’s recent statements reinforce expectations that an end to this open chapter of the regional conflict is nearing.
