Beirut, Lebanon – The Lebanese Minister of Justice stated in media remarks that Hezbollah’s practices outside the framework of the state and the law weaken Lebanon’s ability to manage its negotiations with international parties. He emphasized that a unified official decision is a fundamental condition for strengthening the state’s position in any political or security negotiations.
The minister added that the continued unilateral decision-making or actions by any party outside legitimate institutions weakens Lebanon’s position. He further explained that this increases the pressure on Lebanon regarding sensitive regional issues, stressing that the Lebanese state bears the consequences of these policies both domestically and internationally.
He indicated that the solution lies in strengthening the role of the state and its constitutional institutions, and consolidating security and military decision-making under its authority. This would guarantee the country’s stability and restore confidence in its negotiating position in international forums.
These statements come amidst a broad internal political debate regarding the role of unofficial armed groups in Lebanon. This also follows repeated calls from local and international actors to strengthen state institutions and unify sovereign decision-making.
