Ankara – Turkey – The Turkish Ministry of Defense confirmed that it is closely monitoring the ongoing resolution and integration process in Syria as part of efforts to reinforce Syria’s territorial integrity and implement the “one state, one army” concept, emphasizing its support for unifying military institutions under the Syrian state umbrella.
Monitoring the Integration Process
The ministry stated that the integration process represents a significant path toward bolstering Syria’s unity and establishing state authority across its territory, noting that unifying armed formations within a single military institution supports national security and stability.
These statements come amidst ongoing implementation of understandings regarding the merging of armed forces and formations into Syrian state institutions, part of efforts to end the multiplicity of military forces seen during the war years.
Handing Over Weapons to the Syrian Army
The Turkish Defense Ministry emphasized that handing over weapons and military equipment to the Syrian Army constitutes a natural requirement of the integration process, given that military gear should remain within the official military establishment.
Turkey had previously expressed its readiness to supply weapons systems, equipment, and logistical means to Syria within the framework of bilateral military cooperation agreements between the two countries.
Supporting Syrian Territorial Integrity
Ankara stresses that its objective in supporting the ongoing track is preserving Syrian territorial integrity and securing the “one state, one army” principle, in parallel with rebuilding state institutions and boosting security and military capabilities.
These positions coincide with Damascus’s continuous efforts to integrate armed formations into the Syrian Army, including special arrangements for the northeast, aiming to unify military command and end structural division within the armed forces. Turkish support comes in this context as part of security and military cooperation with the Syrian government.
