Havana, Cuba – The Cuban government condemned what it called a “dangerous and unprecedented escalation” in the intensity of military threats emanating from the United States. It asserted that these actions constitute a flagrant violation of international law and the principles of the UN Charter, and directly threaten the stability and security of the region.
In an official statement, the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the recent US rhetoric reflects an increasingly hostile approach. It also indicated that these threats do not serve efforts toward de-escalation or dialogue, but rather contribute to further tensions in bilateral relations, which have already been at a standstill for years.
The statement emphasized that Cuba will not yield to what it described as a “policy of pressure and blackmail,” affirming its commitment to its sovereignty and the independence of its national decision-making. At the same time, it called for respect for the rules of international law and the use of diplomatic means to resolve disputes.
Havana also warned that the continuation of this approach could have serious repercussions for regional security, especially given the current tense international climate. It called on the international community to assume its responsibilities in preventing escalation and maintaining peace and stability.
These statements come at a time of escalating tensions between the two countries. This stems from complex political and economic issues, most notably the US sanctions imposed on Cuba, which Havana describes as “inhumane.” These sanctions directly impact the lives of Cuban citizens.
