Doha, Qatar – The official spokesman for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Majid Al-Ansari, confirmed that the ongoing talks between the Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the future security and safety of the “Strait of Hormuz” have made significant progress. He said these talks have reached a very advanced stage. Al-Ansari described these negotiations as standing at a pivotal and crucial point. This point is important for determining the course of regional stability.
Qatar’s position supports de-escalation and freedom of navigation.
Speaking at the regular press conference, Al-Ansari expressed Qatar’s full and unwavering support for all regional and international efforts aimed at reducing tension and de-escalation in the region. He affirmed that Doha, based on its pivotal diplomatic role and ongoing mediation efforts, is exerting all its diplomatic influence to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. In addition, Doha wants to ensure the smooth flow of maritime traffic as soon as possible. The Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized that his country supports any formula or arrangement that definitively guarantees the security of the Strait of Hormuz and the freedom of international navigation through it. He also stated that Qatar wants to prevent it from becoming, under any circumstances, a tool for blackmail or regional or international political pressure.
He also noted that the security and safety of the region is a shared collective responsibility that requires close regional and Arab coordination. At the same time, he said this effort should happen in parallel with the international community’s demand to exert more effective pressure on Israel to implement the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip. Achieving the ceasefire is an essential and indispensable pillar for achieving comprehensive stability in the Middle East.
Positive reactions and ongoing international coordination
Al-Ansari revealed that Doha has received very positive signals and responses from both the Omani and Iranian sides. This clearly reflects tangible and flexible progress in the negotiating positions between the two parties. He explained that diplomatic negotiations are still ongoing and proceeding steadily. The spokesperson concluded by emphasizing that the State of Qatar continues its tireless efforts, in full coordination with the United States and its regional and international partners, to ensure the full implementation of the Gaza agreement. Qatar also seeks to achieve sustainable and guaranteed stability in the region. Moreover, it does this within the framework of a comprehensive political vision aimed at consolidating the foundations of regional security and peace and averting the dangers of open conflicts.
