Havana, Cuba – The Cuban government strongly condemned what it called “acts of aggression” by the United States in the Caribbean Sea. This came after US forces targeted several boats in the region, allegedly to combat smuggling and illegal immigration.

The Cuban Foreign Ministry said in an official statement that these practices constitute a “flagrant violation of international law and the sovereignty of states.” It also asserted that Washington is using the pretext of maritime security to justify its repeated incursions into the territorial waters of Caribbean nations.

The statement added that targeting Cuban or friendly nation vessels constitutes a dangerous escalation that threatens regional stability. It also called on the international community to condemn these violations and pressure the United States to cease what it described as “old aggressive policies in a new guise.”

Observers noted that the escalation comes amid growing tensions between Cuba and the United States. This is particularly true following the tightening of US sanctions and the continuation of the economic embargo imposed on Havana for more than six decades.

Diplomatic circles view this Cuban stance as a clear political message: the communist island will not remain silent in the face of any violation of its sovereignty, even given the difficult economic circumstances the country is experiencing.
