Abu Dhabi, UAE – The Emirates Red Crescent Authority announced that the number of orphans benefiting from the sponsorship program since its launch 40 years ago has reached 326,971 orphans in dozens of countries,
while the Authority currently sponsors 122,576 orphans within the United Arab Emirates and in 22 other countries.
A long humanitarian journey
A report issued by the Emirates Red Crescent on the occasion of World Orphan Day explained
that the Orphan Sponsorship Program was launched in 1986
and has achieved widespread success thanks to the support of benefactors and the community’s response,
becoming one of the most prominent humanitarian initiatives
that distinguishes the work of the Emirates Red Crescent at the regional and international levels.
The report indicated that the program continues to expand annually, benefiting from the ongoing support
and attention it receives from the UAE leadership.
Comprehensive support for orphans and their families
For his part, Ahmed Sari Al Mazrouei affirmed that the Red Crescent works to provide for the needs of orphans
in the areas of health, education, and social welfare, in addition to supporting their families to meet the demands of life.
He added that the organization employs effective mechanisms to attract sponsors and expand community participation,
which contributes to improving the conditions of orphans and ensuring a dignified life for them.
Promoting social solidarity
The Red Crescent report indicated that the program reflects the spirit of solidarity
and mutual support established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan,
which the UAE continues to uphold under the leadership of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The organization affirmed its ongoing efforts to expand its humanitarian programs,
focusing on ensuring the sustainability of support for orphans
and strengthening the community’s role in assisting them and securing a better future for them.
