Houston, USA – Canada’s head coach, Jesse Marsh, confirmed that his team does not view their Round of 16 match against Morocco in the 2026 World Cup as an opportunity for revenge for their loss in the Qatar World Cup. Marsh emphasized that their focus is entirely on securing a place in the quarterfinals.
The Canadian national team will face their Moroccan counterparts this Saturday evening in a match to be held at the Houston stadium in the United States. This match is part of the Round of 16 of the World Cup.
During the pre-match press conference, Marsh downplayed the significance of discussing the two teams’ encounter in the 2022 edition, which ended in a 2-1 victory for Morocco. Marsh emphasized that the circumstances were completely different.
The American coach said: “I don’t believe in the idea of revenge in football. It’s true that such matches are full of excitement, but what concerns us is how to deliver the best possible performance”.
He added: “We are not thinking about what happened in the last World Cup, but rather focusing on preparing for the current match, studying the strengths of the Moroccan team, and working to impose our style of play”.
He continued: “I wasn’t with the Canadian team in that match, so I don’t have any feelings associated with it. This is a different match, in different circumstances, and both teams have changed a lot”.
Marsh concluded his remarks by saying: “All that concerns us is giving our best on the field and achieving the result that will give us a ticket to the next round”.
The winner of the Morocco-Canada match will face the winner of the France-Paraguay match. This encounter is part of the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup.
