Ankara, Turkey — A senior Turkish official denied the presence of any Turkish troops or personnel at the Syrian airbase in Idlib recently targeted by Israeli airstrikes. Consequently, Ankara rejected Israeli claims as fabricated pretexts designed to justify strikes against neighboring states and disrupt regional stability. Furthermore, this exchange unfolds amid escalating geopolitical tensions regarding foreign military footprints inside Syria.

Conflicting Narratives and Allegations of Military Entrenchment

The Turkish official clarified that Ankara maintained no presence at Abu al-Duhur Airbase, directly contradicting claims reported by Axios from an Israeli official who asserted the strike aimed to prevent Turkish military establishment. Additionally, these conflicting statements highlight growing friction over defense dynamics in Syria as Ankara seeks to strengthen security ties with Damascus.

The airstrikes triggered diplomatic criticism across the region regarding potential military escalation inside Syrian territory. Consequently, regional actors warned that sustained strikes jeopardize fragile stability and complicate broader diplomatic efforts.

International Concerns and Diplomatic Condemnations

The U.S. envoy to Syria expressed deep concern over the Israeli strikes on Abu al-Duhur Airbase. Additionally, the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack as an unjustified aggression and a clear violation of international law.

Finally, Turkish officials continue to view Israeli operational justifications as attempts to extend military strikes across regional borders. Ultimately, observers remain focused on northern Syria to monitor potential military friction and diplomatic outcomes.
