Damascus, Syria — The Syrian Foreign Minister affirmed that nuclear materials located within the country will remain under full state custody while remaining subject to International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards. Consequently, Damascus emphasized its commitment to managing its nuclear framework in according with established international protocols. Furthermore, Syrian officials reiterated their nation’s right to utilize civil nuclear technology for domestic development.

IAEA Safeguards and Civil Energy Rights

The Foreign Minister clarified that maintaining nuclear materials under state ownership under IAEA oversight serves to guarantee the strictly peaceful nature of the national program. Additionally, Damascus aims to facilitate the IAEA’s verification and monitoring roles, ensuring full transparency within the international community.

These statements reinforce Syria’s position on applying nuclear technology across vital civil sectors and public services. Consequently, Damascus maintains a clear distinction between authorized peaceful applications and prohibited non-proliferation activities, adhering strictly to global non-proliferation treaties.

International Compliance and Regulatory Cooperation

The minister emphasized that Syria’s management of nuclear materials continues to rely on relevant international standards and bilateral agreements. Additionally, maintaining a transparent framework for international inspection helps mitigate political misinterpretations surrounding peaceful civil programs.

Finally, Syria reaffirmed its policy supporting the right of developing nations to harness nuclear energy for peaceful civil development. Ultimately, ongoing engagement with the IAEA remains central to upholding international commitments while preserving sovereign interests.
