Madrid, Spain – Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone has made a decision regarding striker Julián Álvarez. This decision comes amidst reports linking him with a move to Barcelona during the current summer transfer window.
Simeone said during the press conference for the Malaga match: “I think the club owner spoke definitively and clearly about Alvarez, so there is nothing more to say. It’s like a court ruling”.
The Atletico Madrid coach added: “We focus on the sporting aspect, and we seek to take care of the player from both a human and sporting perspective. This way he is in the best possible condition and performs at his usual level”.
Simeone explained that Álvarez will not be available for the match against Málaga. He said, “He won’t be available for this game, and I hope he continues to improve in the coming days so he can return to playing matches”.
He continued: “I think Julian Alvarez needs more training to reach the best possible fitness before facing Villarreal on Sunday”.
Regarding the possibility of Alvarez apologizing to Atletico Madrid fans after the controversy surrounding his future, Simeone simply said: “I respect everyone’s opinions”.
Atletico Madrid begin their La Liga campaign against Malaga on Wednesday evening. They then face Villarreal on Sunday in the second round of matches.
