Girona and Real Mallorca have been relegated to the Spanish Second Division, following the conclusion of the 38th and final round of La Liga.
Despite Real Mallorca’s 3-0 victory over Real Oviedo in the final round, it was not enough to guarantee survival, as they finished with the same number of points as 17th-placed Osasuna, and were relegated on goal difference.
Girona also failed to avoid relegation, after only managing a draw against Elche in the last round, thus confirming the Catalan team’s official relegation to the second division.
Girona needed to win while hoping for their rivals to stumble, but the draw ended their hopes of staying up, as their tally remained frozen at 41 points in second-to-last place.
This completes the list of teams relegated from the Spanish League this season, after Real Oviedo was the first to be relegated from the competition after only one season in the top flight.
