Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian club Pyramids FC announced on Friday evening that it has officially signed South African coach Rulani Mokwena to take over the technical leadership of the first football team, succeeding Croatian Krunoslav Jurčić.
The club posted a message on its official Facebook page welcoming the new coach, which read: “A new beginning full of ambition… Welcome, Rulani Mokwena”.
The signing of Mokoena comes days after Pyramids announced the end of Jurcic’s tenure, during which he led the team for two and a half years, achieving notable successes that contributed to writing a new chapter in the club’s history.
The 39-year-old South African coach boasts an impressive coaching record in Africa, having previously managed South African club Mamelodi Sundowns, Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca, and Algerian club MC Alger. His most recent stint was with Libyan club Al-Ittihad.
During his career, Mokoena won a number of titles, most notably the African Super Cup with Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2023-2024 season. In addition to four South African league titles, he also won the Algerian Super Cup with MC Alger.
Pyramids FC hopes to continue competing for domestic and continental titles under Mokoena’s leadership. Mokoena is considered one of the most prominent young coaches in African football.
