Tehran, Iran – The southern Iranian provinces of Khuzestan, Hormozgan and Fars witnessed a series of successive and widespread attacks and explosions, following intensive air and missile strikes by the US Central Command (CENTCOM) targeting dozens of sites and infrastructure belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
Successive explosions and widespread attacks in Khuzestan
In Khuzestan province, official reports and eyewitness accounts indicated that several cities were targeted by US missile strikes on Thursday morning. The deputy head of security and law enforcement in the Khuzestan governor’s office announced that areas surrounding the cities of Shadegan, Arvandkenar, Abadan, and Ahvaz were directly targeted. Residents reported hearing four to five powerful explosions that shook the center of Ahvaz and its surrounding areas, accompanied by tremors and flames. Official authorities have launched a preliminary investigation to determine the extent of the material damage and potential casualties.
Air strikes on Qeshm and Kish islands and the Strait of Hormuz
In the field, specifically in the provinces of Hormozgan and Fars, loud and successive explosions were heard on the islands of Qeshm and Kish, as well as in the cities of Bandar Abbas and Kazerun. The deputy governor of Hormozgan confirmed that the Qeshm region was targeted by a US military attack, while the Tasnim News Agency reported that a missile landed near a residential area in Qeshm, causing a temporary power outage that technical teams quickly restored. On the civilian front, the Kish Free Zone Organization announced that no damage had been reported in urban or residential areas on the island, confirming that air traffic and navigation were operating normally. Authorities denied any explosions in the Sirik district, while awaiting official assessments.
CENTCOM strikes and vital target sites
For its part, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced a series of intensive airstrikes against dozens of targets and sites belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) inside Iranian territory. CENTCOM explained that these operations were a decisive response to a failed missile attack targeting US forces in the region the previous day. The command confirmed that the strikes targeted military command and control centers, missile and drone facilities, coastal defense and surveillance sites, and Iranian naval capabilities, coinciding with raising the readiness level of more than 50,000 US troops in the Middle East to the highest level of alert.
