Washington, DC – US President Donald Trump announced a comprehensive $22.5 billion plan to redevelop and modernize Washington Dulles International Airport, aiming to transform it into one of the world’s most modern airports and enhance its capacity to accommodate the growing volume of air travel.
The plan includes the redevelopment of more than five million square feet of the airport, the construction of modern passenger terminals, the expansion of check-in and security screening areas, and the modernization of infrastructure and transportation between terminals, while preserving the historic main terminal, a prominent landmark of the airport.
The project also includes the construction of a multi-story parking garage with a capacity for tens of thousands of vehicles, and the addition of new commercial and service facilities, including shops, restaurants, and hotels, which will contribute to improving the passenger experience and increasing the airport’s operational efficiency in the coming years.
Trump emphasized that the project represents one of the largest airport development projects in the United States, noting that its financing will rely on municipal bonds and contributions from airlines operating at the airport. He added that the project’s phases are expected to begin after the completion of regulatory procedures and the acquisition of necessary approvals.
