Ramallah, Palestine – The State of Palestine called on the Italian government to officially recognize the State of Palestine and take practical steps to support the two-state solution, stressing that this step is a fundamental pillar for strengthening the prospects for peace and stability in the Middle East, given the ongoing escalation in the Palestinian territories.
The Palestinian leadership also called on the Italian authorities to ban the import and trade of products from Israeli settlements established in the occupied Palestinian territories, considering that economic dealings with these settlements contravene international law and UN resolutions that affirm the illegality of settlement activity.
Palestine affirmed that recognition of the State of Palestine by European countries would bolster international efforts to end the conflict and provide political support for the two-state solution, guaranteeing the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
It stressed the importance of the international community fulfilling its legal and humanitarian responsibilities and taking concrete measures to halt settlement expansion and protect the rights of the Palestinian people. Palestine called on Italy to play a more active role within the European Union to support the peace process and achieve a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian question.
