Washington, DC – The White House announced late yesterday that US President Donald Trump will undergo his annual physical examination on the 26th of this month.
President Trump is scheduled to visit Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland, near Washington, DC, today for routine dental checkups and an initial health assessment prior to the more comprehensive examination.
Exam timing and followers’ questions
This is the first time the US president has undergone a medical evaluation in nearly six months, specifically since last October.
This medical move comes at a sensitive time. The fact that the examination is taking place just six months after the annual physical in April of last year has sparked some speculation and concern about the president’s health. This comes amidst increasing pressure and a busy schedule of pressing international issues.
President Trump received a positive report from his doctors during his most recent physical examination, stating that he is in “excellent health.” The report confirmed that his cardiovascular, respiratory, and nervous system functions, as well as his overall physical abilities, are strong and functioning efficiently.
However, public concern remains, given that Trump began his term as the oldest person to hold the office in American history, based on his inauguration date.
Medical history and rumors
In addition to the timing, rumors about the president’s health continue to surface intermittently in political and media circles. Late last year, photographers captured a noticeable bruise on the back of the president’s hand. This prompted the White House to issue an official statement at the time, asserting that it was merely a minor bruise resulting from “frequent and forceful handshakes” during his field visits.
The White House also revealed in July of last year that the president had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a condition doctors described as very common in people over 70. Furthermore, it does not pose an immediate threat to his executive abilities.
Threshold of eighty years
President Trump, born in June 1946, will celebrate his 80th birthday this June. This places his health under constant scrutiny from both adversaries and allies.
The medical team at Walter Reed is expected to release a detailed report following the May 26th examinations. This report is anticipated to serve as an official document settling the debate surrounding the president’s ability to continue his duties amidst current global tensions, particularly given his involvement in complex issues such as the Iran nuclear deal and tensions in the Indo-Pacific region.
