London, England – The Telegraph newspaper reported that hackers believed to be linked to the Iranian government successfully launched a cyberattack targeting a UK power station last month. The attack completely shut down the station for four consecutive days. According to security assessments, this incident marks the first time hackers affiliated with Tehran have managed to shut down and disrupt a vital facility of this size within the UK. This represents a dangerous escalation in the cross-border cyberwarfare.

In the same security context, British officials preferred to refrain from disclosing the name or precise location of the factory due to stringent security concerns and the sensitivity of information related to critical infrastructure. Leaks indicated that the targeted facility remained offline for four full days. During this time, the technical team and staff exerted maximum effort to repair the cyberattacks and restore the station’s vital systems.

Regarding the repercussions of the incident, the same sources explained that the targeted power station was relatively small in terms of production capacity and size. Therefore, the impact did not extend to the wider UK electricity grid or cause any significant shortfall in the country’s overall power production.

This cyberattack on British infrastructure coincided with a similar, widespread series of cyberattacks targeting the water sector in the United States during the same period. These attacks affected critical facilities in 12 different US states, raising serious concerns and security fears within the White House. There was also growing interest in the increasing capabilities of cyberattacks targeting critical infrastructure in Western countries.
