Kinshasa, Congo – The Democratic Republic of Congo has bolstered its efforts to combat the Ebola outbreak after receiving more than 16,000 doses of the Ervibo vaccine. This comes as part of an urgent health response aimed at curbing the spread of the disease and expanding protection in the most vulnerable areas. The new shipment arrives as Congolese health authorities, in collaboration with international partners, intensify their efforts to contain the epidemic. This is particularly crucial given concerns about the transmission of the virus and the potential for widespread infection in areas with limited access to healthcare.

The new doses are intended to support vaccination campaigns. Priority will be given to healthcare workers, those who have been in contact with infected individuals, and those most vulnerable to infection. This is part of a strategy aimed at breaking the chains of transmission and limiting the virus’s ability to spread. The arrival of the vaccines represents a significant boost to the response efforts. This is because authorities are counting on it to accelerate the pace of vaccination and strengthen epidemiological surveillance and contact tracing activities. They are also working in parallel to enhance the readiness of healthcare facilities to handle any potential increase in the number of infections.

The Ebola virus is one of the most dangerous viral diseases to have repeatedly struck the African continent in recent decades. Therefore, providing vaccines and expanding the medical response are crucial to containing any new outbreaks before they escalate into a widespread health crisis. The Democratic Republic of Congo is striving to contain the epidemic as quickly as possible by bolstering its stockpile of the Ebola vaccine. There are also assurances that a successful response requires continued vaccination and awareness campaigns, along with international support for the health system in the affected areas.
