Washington, DC – US House Speaker Mike Johnson affirmed that the United States is entering a new and decisive phase focused on intensifying economic pressure and imposing further stringent sanctions on the Iranian government. He also indicated that the Trump administration is working diligently to resolve this vital security issue.

In the same vein, the Speaker of the House of Representatives emphasized the importance of the contribution of the United States’ international partners and allies in supporting efforts to secure maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and other vital waterways. This support ensures the continued flow of global trade.

He also drew attention to the close link between the current regional instability and tensions and rising fuel prices. He affirmed that these changes have direct repercussions on economic markets.

Washington tightens naval blockade and prepares to punish Iran economically

On the ground and economic fronts, the international community is awaiting details of the new sanctions package expected to be announced by US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant at a press conference held by the Treasury Department. This comes as the US Central Command continues to enforce strict measures and a tight naval blockade by deploying dozens of warships. This has led to the diversion of dozens of commercial vessels and a significant reduction in Iranian oil shipments compared to pre-conflict levels.
