Kyiv, Ukraine – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Belarusian authorities of failing to respond to repeated Ukrainian requests to dismantle Russian signal rebroadcasting equipment located on Belarusian territory. He asserted that the continued operation of these systems raises security concerns and strengthens Russian capabilities in the region.
Zelenskyy stated that Kyiv has raised this issue on numerous occasions through diplomatic and security channels. However, Belarus has not taken any practical steps to address Ukrainian concerns. He noted that these devices are used to support communications and signal infrastructure related to Russian activities near the Ukrainian border.
The statements come amid ongoing tensions between Ukraine and Belarus since the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Kyiv accuses Minsk of providing logistical and military support to Moscow, while Belarusian authorities deny direct involvement in combat operations.
Observers believe that communications and electronic signals have become a crucial aspect of the ongoing conflict, given the increasing role of technology and communication systems in managing military operations, gathering intelligence, and coordinating field movements.
Belarusian authorities have not yet commented on Zelensky’s statements. However, Minsk has consistently maintained in recent years that its military and technical cooperation with Russia falls within the framework of bilateral agreements signed between the two countries, which cover areas of joint defense and security.
These statements reflect the ongoing disagreements between Kyiv and Minsk on multiple issues that extend beyond traditional military matters. These include technological infrastructure, communications, and cybersecurity—issues of increasing importance given the evolving nature of modern conflicts and their growing reliance on digital systems and advanced technologies.
Analysts believe that the dispute over signal rebroadcasting equipment could add a new dimension to the existing tensions between the two sides. This comes at a time when Ukraine continues to garner international support to counter what it describes as security threats linked to the close cooperation between Russia and Belarus.
