Kyiv, Ukraine – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he is visiting the UK for bilateral talks with Prime Minister Keir Starmer. He will also meet with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. This visit is part of the “European Troika plus Ukraine” format. Zelenskyy explained in a post on the X platform that the discussions will focus on defense in the ongoing conflict. Furthermore, strengthening cooperation in European security, particularly regarding air defense systems, will be addressed.
European-Ukrainian coordination
The Ukrainian president noted that the meetings are part of broader coordination efforts between Kyiv and major European countries. This aims to unify positions on the war and strengthen joint defense capabilities. The proposed format includes a meeting between Ukraine, Britain, France, and Germany. All of this is taking place within the framework of discussing military and diplomatic developments related to the conflict with Russia.
Air defense file takes center stage
Zelenskyy emphasized that the priority during the talks is supporting Ukraine’s defense capabilities, particularly regarding air defense and protecting critical infrastructure from attacks. He added that the two sides are also discussing prospects for possible diplomatic solutions to end the war. This comes as military operations continue on several fronts.
Continued European support
This visit comes at a time when European countries continue to provide military and political support to Ukraine. This is taking place amidst efforts to coordinate Western positions on the future of the war and a potential path to a settlement.
