Paris, France – France has called on the United States and Iran to take swift steps to ensure the continued flow of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, warning that any disruption to shipping in the strategic waterway would have serious repercussions for the global economy and international energy markets.
The French government stressed that maintaining freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is a priority for the international community, given its vital role in transporting large quantities of oil and gas to global markets. It also noted that any escalation could lead to widespread disruptions in supply chains and a surge in energy prices.
Paris stressed the need to prioritize diplomatic solutions and dialogue between Washington and Tehran to avoid further escalation, emphasizing that regional stability directly impacts the global economy, which continues to face challenges related to inflation and slowing growth in several countries.
These statements come amid growing concerns about the impact of regional tensions on international trade. The Strait of Hormuz, in particular, is one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints, through which a significant portion of oil exports from the Gulf states pass.
Economic circles have warned that any restrictions on navigation in the Strait could lead to sharp increases in oil and shipping prices, impacting production and transportation costs worldwide. This would also increase pressure on global markets.
France, in coordination with its European partners, continues to support international efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region and ensuring the security of maritime routes. It emphasized that the stability of global trade and energy security require avoiding any actions that could exacerbate the crisis or threaten international shipping.
