Mogadishu, Somalia – The fuel and chemical tanker MT Assana, which was hijacked off the coast of Yemen, has fallen into the hands of pirates in Somalia. This development highlights the escalating threat of piracy in the region, according to Reuters.

Growing concerns about maritime security

Reports indicate that the Tanzanian-flagged vessel was sailing in a shipping lane near Yemen when it was hijacked.

It then headed towards the Somali coast, where it fell under the control of a group of pirates.

The incident raises growing concerns about maritime security in the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.

This is particularly relevant given the increasing security challenges facing commercial vessels and fuel tankers in this vital region for global trade.

Fate of the ship’s crew

No official details have yet been released regarding the fate of the ship’s crew or the identity of those who carried out the hijacking. Authorities continue to monitor the situation, awaiting any international action aimed at securing the ship and ensuring the safety of its crew.
