Tel Aviv, Israel – Israeli media revealed on Sunday a new American approach that could alter the balance of power in the region. The United States is seriously considering the possibility of deploying permanent military forces inside Israel.
This move, described as being under thorough review within the Israeli security establishment, reflects a fundamental shift in the future of the American presence in the Middle East.
Permanent bases and air defense batteries
The Israeli newspaper Yisrael Hayom quoted a senior security source as saying that the American forces currently stationed in Israel “will not leave in the near or distant future.”
The source indicated that ongoing discussions between Washington and Tel Aviv are addressing several scenarios for strengthening this military presence. This goes beyond mere joint exercises or a temporary deployment.
According to security sources, the proposals under discussion include deploying advanced American air defense batteries or permanently stationing squadrons of fighter jets. In addition, there are proposals concerning other military and logistical components.
The source added that expectations indicate “the next American base in the region could be inside Israel itself.” This is a strong indication of a deepening of the military-security alliance to unprecedented levels amidst escalating regional tensions.
Map of US military deployment
This development comes at a time when the United States has been managing a vast network of military sites in the Middle East for decades.
According to data from the Council on Foreign Relations, Washington currently operates at least 19 military sites in the region. These sites range from permanent bases to temporary support centers.
The prospect of Israel joining the list of countries hosting permanent US bases represents a shift in Israeli security doctrine, which previously relied on the principle of “self-defense.” It also reflects Washington’s need to directly secure its interests at the heart of the conflict zone. This aims to provide a permanent protective umbrella for its most important ally in the face of growing threats.
