Benghazi, Libya – A Libyan military source reported that the armed forces successfully freed two Russian citizens who had been kidnapped in Mali since December 2024, in a high-quality security operation. The operation was overseen directly by the Deputy Commander-in-Chief, Field Marshal Saddam Haftar. The military source explained that the operation was the result of precise intelligence obtained from an informant. This informant had been captured during a previous operation that led to the release of American hostage Kevin Rydow. Furthermore, this crucial information contributed to pinpointing the exact location where the Russian citizens were being held and successfully locating them.
According to the same source, the two Russian citizens arrived in Benghazi after a perilous journey. Currently, the relevant security authorities are making the necessary arrangements for their formal handover to representatives of their government. This successful security operation underscores the Libyan Armed Forces’ commitment to ongoing cooperation with the international community and their support for efforts to combat armed groups and maintain peace, security, and stability in the Sahel and Sahara region.
