London, Britain – The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported on Saturday that it had received a report from a cargo ship stating that it had been struck by a projectile while sailing in the Strait of Hormuz, without specifying the extent of the damage or whether there were any injuries among the crew.
The incident comes amid ongoing security tensions that have led to a sharp decline in maritime traffic. The authority revealed shocking figures on Friday showing that transit rates had fallen to only 17% of pre-conflict levels, with just 151 ships passing through in seven days.
The authority also recorded 56 reports of damage to ships in the strait and its adjacent waters since the outbreak of the US-Iranian war on February 28, apart from the two recent attacks announced by ADNOC last Thursday.
