Tehran, Iran – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi confirmed that his country is not currently engaged in direct negotiations with the United States. He indicated that Tehran has not made a final decision regarding resuming dialogue with Washington. Araqchi explained that the existing contacts between the two sides are indirect and conducted through intermediaries, including Qatar and Pakistan. These contacts aim to convey messages and positions. He emphasized that these contacts do not signify the commencement of formal negotiations between the two countries.

The Iranian stance comes amid continued tensions between Tehran and Washington and the lack of agreement on a number of political and security issues. Meanwhile, regional actors are attempting to keep communication channels open to prevent further escalation. Araghchi indicated that any decision regarding a return to negotiations requires a careful assessment of the current circumstances. This comes against the backdrop of what Tehran considers a lack of sufficient guarantees for the success of any new round of dialogue.

Regional states are continuing their mediation efforts between the two sides in an attempt to bridge the gaps and create a conducive environment for resuming diplomatic talks. This is becoming increasingly important given the growing concerns about the repercussions of continued tensions on regional security. The situation is also linked to developments concerning the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway for global trade and energy supplies. Meanwhile, discussions continue regarding maritime security and arrangements for the passage of ships. Iran’s position reflects the continued stalemate in relations with the United States, despite the existence of indirect communication channels. A return to direct negotiations appears contingent on overcoming existing disagreements and reaching understandings that safeguard the interests of both parties.
