Baghdad, Iraq – As part of proactive operations and ongoing efforts by Iraqi security forces to eliminate terrorist networks and pursue remnants of ISIS, the Military Intelligence Directorate and the Counter-Terrorism Service announced on Saturday the execution of targeted operations. These operations resulted in the arrest of three terrorists and the seizure of a cache of ammunition and war remnants in the provinces of Diyala and Anbar.

Two terrorists captured in Diyala

A statement issued by the Military Intelligence Directorate indicated that, based on precise intelligence and diligent field surveillance, detachments from the Directorate’s Intelligence and Security Department of the 23rd Commando Division achieved a significant success. This was accomplished through coordination and cooperation with various security agencies, resulting in the arrest of two dangerous terrorists in Diyala Governorate. The statement clarified that the two individuals, for whom arrest warrants had been previously issued under Article (4/1) of the Counter-Terrorism Law, constituted a high-value security target. They were apprehended and handed over to the relevant judicial authorities to complete all legal procedures against them in accordance with the law.

A successful operation in Anbar resulted in the arrest of a fugitive.

In a related development, the Counter-Terrorism Service announced the successful arrest of another terrorist operative in Anbar province. This followed a meticulous intelligence and field operation that lasted several days. Counter-Terrorism Service forces also conducted a large-scale and targeted search operation in various areas of Anbar province. This operation resulted in the discovery of a large cache of weapons and ammunition left behind by the ISIS terrorist organization. Military engineering teams handled the cache and its contents according to established technical procedures. The cache was also properly disposed of to ensure it could not be used by sleeper cells, thus enhancing stability and security in the liberated cities.
