Kuwait – In a rapidly escalating security development, the Kuwaiti army announced on Sunday that its air defense systems had successfully intercepted missile and drone attacks. It also clarified that the sounds of explosions heard in the country were a result of operations to counter hostile targets. The General Staff of the Army called on citizens and residents to fully comply with the security and safety instructions issued by the relevant authorities.
Targeting US bases in Kuwait
This escalation follows the Iranian military’s announcement of a new round of attacks as part of the seventeenth phase of Operation Shine. They claimed to have targeted a US military ammunition depot at Camp Adiri. Additionally, equipment and personnel storage facilities at Ali Salem Air Base were targeted using drones.
Intensified US response: Day 8 of operations
In contrast, the US military confirmed its success in identifying and targeting the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps force responsible for the attack that killed American service members in Jordan on July 17. US Central Command (CENTCOM) dedicated the eighth day of its ongoing military operations to striking this force and its facilities.
A statement from CENTCOM explained that US forces conducted precision strikes on the night of July 18, targeting coastal surveillance facilities, air defense systems, and naval capabilities. The strikes also targeted missile and drone storage sites. This was part of a strategy aimed at systematically degrading Iran’s military capabilities.
Combat readiness in the Middle East
Central Command confirmed that these strikes marked the eighth consecutive night of intensive bombing, emphasizing that the operations were conducted under the direct command of the Commander-in-Chief. In the context of bolstering the military presence, the statement indicated that more than 50,000 US troops are currently deployed throughout the Middle East. They are on high alert and at a high state of combat readiness to counter any threats. Furthermore, the direct confrontation between Washington and Tehran is escalating, and tensions are spreading to several countries in the region.
