Damascus, Syria – The Quneitra countryside in southwestern Syria witnessed intense Israeli military activity on Sunday. An Israeli force entered the town of al-Samdaniyah al-Sharqiyah. Meanwhile, two shells landed near the town of al-Hamidiyah, causing no injuries.
Details of the incursion into eastern Samdaniyah
Local sources reported that an Israeli force consisting of five military vehicles entered the village of al-Samdaniyah al-Sharqiyah in the northern Quneitra countryside this morning. The force also set up a temporary checkpoint within the village and then conducted searches of passersby before continuing their movements in the area. This occurred amidst a state of anticipation and caution among the residents.
Bombing of the area surrounding the town of Hamidiya
Simultaneously with the incursion, Israeli forces stationed at the Hamidiya base targeted the area separating the town of Hamidiya and the city of Salam with a mortar shell and a smoke grenade. Sources indicated that one of the shells landed in the surrounding farmland, resulting in a loud explosion. The sources also confirmed that the shelling caused no material damage or casualties.
Escalation of operations in the region
These field movements come less than 24 hours after another force, consisting of six military vehicles, infiltrated the vicinity of the Qudna Dam in the central Quneitra countryside on Saturday evening. The force was supported by intensive drone activity in the area before withdrawing. This escalation reflects the continued security tensions in southern Syria. The matter is further complicated by the recurrence of such incursions in recent days; four days ago, the Israeli army fired flares over the towns of Jabatha al-Khashab and Hadar. This action heightened the residents’ fears.
These movements are part of ongoing military activity along the ceasefire line. The Quneitra and Daraa governorates have witnessed frequent incursions and border attacks, exacerbating the security instability experienced by residents of these sensitive border areas. Furthermore, local forces continue to monitor Israeli movements amidst this pattern of sporadic military operations.
