  • Military Alert and Intensive Rescue Operations

New Delhi, India – A tragic natural disaster has struck the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, as flash floods and landslides in the border districts of Poonch and Rajouri have claimed the lives of 11 people, with the toll expected to rise as search operations for the missing continue. The heavy rains have caused massive destruction to homes and infrastructure, prompting authorities to declare a state of maximum alert.

Widespread Destruction and Isolation of Disaster-Stricken Areas

The most severe damage was concentrated in the Surankote area of Poonch district, where raging waters and mudslides wiped out large parts of villages. The violent flow of water severed main and secondary roads, creating a significant barrier to the movement of residents and the arrival of relief teams to isolated villages. Local authorities confirmed that continued rainfall is exacerbating the crisis, with growing fears of further landslides threatening remaining residential clusters.

Military Alert and Intensive Rescue Operations

In an urgent response to the disaster, the Indian government deployed joint rescue teams comprising units from the Army, police, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), alongside state-level forces. These teams are conducting precise search operations to find victims under the rubble and evacuate families trapped in low-lying areas to safe shelters. Teams are also racing against time to clear debris and open blocked roads to allow the passage of humanitarian aid and the heavy equipment needed for rescue operations.

Tragic Scenes and Ongoing Risks: Field footage revealed a humanitarian catastrophe; floods swept away vehicles entirely, houses collapsed onto their occupants, and water inundated entire residential neighborhoods. Authorities continue to assess human and material losses with precision, alongside ongoing warnings of weather fluctuations that could increase the severity of the disaster in the coming hours, keeping relief teams on high alert.
