Brussels, Belgium – The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) announced on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, that its Conflict Zone Notice for Iranian airspace will remain in effect until August 31. This recommendation comes amid escalating military tensions in the region, prompting the agency to take precautionary measures to ensure the safety of civil aviation.
Comprehensive warning to operators
In this bulletin, the agency stressed to airline operators the necessity of “not operating flights within Iranian airspace at any altitude or flight level.” This decision comes as an exceptional precautionary measure due to the risks posed by increased military activity. The decision also stems from ongoing combat operations in Iranian airspace and surrounding regions.
explosive field context
This warning coincides with rapidly evolving developments on the ground, as the US military announced it had launched airstrikes targeting more than 80 sites inside Iran, including defense systems, command centers, and over 60 speedboats belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. These strikes were in response to Tehran’s attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and occurred despite a fragile ceasefire between the two sides.
In response, Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters described the US attacks—which coincided with Ali Khamenei’s funeral in Iraq—as “blatant aggression,” vowing a “crushing” response. As a result of this threat, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps targeted sites in Bahrain and Kuwait using missiles and drones.
