Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Jassem Mohammed Al-Badawi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), strongly condemned the attacks launched by Iran against the Kingdom of Bahrain and the State of Kuwait. Al-Badawi affirmed that these attacks clearly demonstrate Tehran’s continued approach of undermining all international and regional efforts aimed at establishing security and peace in the region. Furthermore, these attacks contribute to hindering efforts to resolve existing crises.

Violation of international law

In a strongly worded statement, the Secretary-General described these attacks as a “clear act of aggression” and a “blatant violation” of the sovereignty of the two sister nations. He noted that this escalation poses a direct threat to the security, stability, and safety of all citizens and residents of Bahrain and Kuwait. Furthermore, he emphasized that these Iranian practices constitute a serious breach of the principles of international law and the UN Charter, which stipulate respect for the sovereignty of states and prohibit aggression against them.

Unified Council Position

In a related development, Jassim Al-Badawi affirmed the Gulf Cooperation Council’s (GCC) unwavering support for both the Kingdom of Bahrain and the State of Kuwait. He also expressed the Council’s full solidarity with them in confronting these challenges. The Secretary-General concluded his remarks by emphasizing the Council’s absolute support for all measures and actions taken by the leadership of both countries to preserve their security and stability, and to protect the lives and safety of all those living within their borders, citizens and residents alike. This support stems from the GCC states’ commitment to defending their sovereignty and shared security.
