Tehran, Iran – The Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the upcoming talks with Qatari mediators regarding the implementation of the interim agreement with the United States will address the issue of releasing frozen Iranian assets. These talks are likely to take place on Wednesday in the Qatari capital, Doha.
Doha hosts talks on implementing the agreement
The Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that the Doha talks would address the implementation
of several provisions of the memorandum of understanding signed with Washington.
It indicated that the discussions would be held with the Qatari delegation, which is acting as mediator between the two sides.
However, no direct participation of US officials in the meetings has been announced.
The ministry added that among the issues to be discussed are the mechanisms
for implementing the understandings related to the release of frozen Iranian assets.
This comes within the framework of the implementation steps of the interim agreement.
Denial of direct meetings with US officials
The Iranian Foreign Ministry denied any backing down from direct meetings with US officials.
It confirmed that Tehran had never intended to hold such meetings in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the anticipated talks are limited to communication with Qatari mediators.
It clarified that indirect channels remain the established framework
for monitoring the implementation of understandings between the two sides.
Iran’s position on the Strait of Hormuz
In a related development, the Iranian Foreign Ministry stressed that there is no need for any external intervention in the Strait of Hormuz.
It asserted that any external actions in the waterway would only complicate matters rather than contribute to de-escalation.
This stance comes amid continued international concern for maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
It also coincides with diplomatic efforts aimed at implementing the provisions of
the interim memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington through Qatari mediation.
