Manama, Bahrain – The Kingdom of Bahrain experienced a state of heightened security alert Wednesday morning after the Ministry of Interior announced the activation of air defense systems that successfully intercepted and destroyed Iranian drones in the Kingdom’s airspace.
As soon as the hostile targets were detected, sirens sounded throughout the country. The Ministry then urged citizens and residents to remain calm, follow safety instructions, and seek shelter in the nearest safe locations as a precautionary measure.
A stormy night of escalation
This attack comes amid a series of Iranian military actions targeting US sites in the region. Axios correspondent Barak Ravid, citing a US official, reported that Iran launched at least four ballistic missiles and several drones toward US bases in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan.
The region witnessed a night of escalating tensions, sparked by Tehran’s downing of a US Apache helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz last Monday.
Washington responds and refutes the claims.
In response, the United States moved quickly to contain the situation on the ground and refute the Iranian narrative.
The New York Times quoted a senior US official who categorically denied the Revolutionary Guard’s claims of carrying out 21 attacks against US bases. The official described the claims as “completely false.”
US sources also confirmed that initial assessments indicated that air defenses successfully intercepted and destroyed almost all of the Iranian missiles and drones. Furthermore, these sources indicated that there were no casualties among US forces or damage to the targeted sites.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the end of what it described as “self-defense strikes” inside Iranian territory. These strikes came in response to the downing of an AH-64 Apache helicopter.
US President Donald Trump confirmed via Truth Social that the helicopter crew survived in a rescue operation he described as “unprecedented,” carried out by US drone boats. He also vowed a “decisive response” to the attack, leaving the region on edge as it awaited developments on the ground and in the diplomatic arena in the coming hours.
