Washington, DC – US Central Command announced in an official statement released Monday morning that it had conducted a series of surgical and defensive strikes targeting strategic Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) sites in the Gorouk and Qeshm regions. This military action follows escalating tensions in the region over the past 48 hours, which have brought US and Iranian forces to the brink of direct confrontation.
Details of US operations
U.S. Central Command explained that the strikes, carried out over Saturday and Sunday, were a direct response to Iran’s downing of a U.S. drone flying over international waters, a blatant violation of international law and freedom of navigation. According to the statement, U.S. forces successfully destroyed advanced radar and command and control sites used for drone operations. A ground control station from which provocative operations were being directed was also destroyed. The statement confirmed that the strikes also targeted two drones that posed an imminent and direct threat to maritime and air traffic in the region.
On the ground, Central Command emphasized that no U.S. casualties or equipment damage were reported as a result of these operations, affirming its complete readiness. In a firm tone, the statement added that the U.S. military will continue to take all necessary measures to protect its assets and interests in the region. It also described the Iranian actions as “unprovoked aggression” occurring during a period when a ceasefire was supposed to be in effect.
Iranian reaction and regional reach
In response, Iran’s reaction was swift and direct. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced in an official statement on Monday that it had targeted “the airbase from which the US military launched its attack on Sirik Island.”
The statement carried a clear threatening tone, vowing that “any repetition of this aggression will be met with a completely different and much harsher response.” This reflects Tehran’s desire to escalate the confrontation.
In a significant development indicating escalating tensions, air raid sirens wailed across Kuwait today.
The Kuwaiti military spokesperson confirmed that the armed forces detected hostile targets, including missiles and drones, that had penetrated Kuwaiti airspace. He added that air defenses successfully intercepted them. These regional developments have placed the region on a knife’s edge, with the international community closely watching how this direct confrontation will unfold. This clash has gone beyond the typical engagements between US and Iranian forces.
