Beirut, Lebanon – Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam affirmed that the relationship between Lebanon and Syria is based on trust and mutual respect for the sovereignty of both countries.

He also stressed the commitment to protecting the shared interests of both sides.

In a press statement, Salam said that Lebanese-Syrian relations should be based on balanced cooperation and respect for the sovereignty of each country.

This contributes to strengthening regional stability and achieving the common interests of both peoples.

Affirmation of mutual sovereignty

The Lebanese Prime Minister stressed the importance of respecting the sovereignty of both Lebanon and Syria and non-interference in internal affairs.

He considered these principles to be the foundation for any stable and sustainable relationship between the two countries.

Salam added that cooperation between Beirut and Damascus should focus on issues of mutual interest.

Foremost among these are border security, economic matters,

and the issue of displaced persons, all of which contribute to stability in the region.

Peace: The importance of preserving common interest

Salam pointed out that Lebanon and Syria are bound by geographical, economic, and political ties.

These ties make coordination between them essential on many vital issues.

He also stressed the importance of preserving shared interests within a framework of mutual respect.

Nawaf Salam’s statements come amidst rapid developments in the region.

This is occurring against a backdrop of diplomatic and political activity related to the security and economic situations in several Middle Eastern countries,
