Tehran, Iran – Despite the controversy surrounding the possibility of its absence, the Iranian Football Federation has officially settled its position, confirming the participation of the Iranian national team in the 2026 World Cup finals, scheduled to be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Reports had raised doubts about the Iranian national team’s participation, given the existing political tensions with the United States, but the Iranian Football Federation stressed that the team would be present at the tournament as normal.
The Iranian Football Federation said in statements carried by the official news agency: “We will definitely participate in the 2026 World Cup, with the need for the host country to take into account our concerns and privacy.”
The Iranian national team is currently preparing to compete in the tournament through intensive training camps at the National Center, under the leadership of a highly experienced coaching staff, weeks before the start of the World Cup.
The Iranian federation affirmed that its country “will not be affected by any external pressures,” stressing that the Iranian delegation will adhere to its beliefs and culture during its participation in the tournament.
The statement also noted that “the real confrontation will be on the pitch,” urging host countries not to bring political disputes into the sporting arena.
Iran’s national team is in Group G of the 2026 World Cup, along with Egypt, Belgium and New Zealand.
